Suggestions • Redbook variations

I posted two topics related to music in the past, one about expanding customisation options and the other about its multiplayer behaviour. This topic is more or less a direct copy of the first suggestion from the music customisation topic, but I wanted to bring more attention to it since I think it's more important than the rest.
The situation is as such: I am interested in using the recently released, community-made soundtrack in my main Re-Volt installation. Hearing the old music over and over again has gotten a bit repetitive, and the new soundtrack provides a fresh experience while still maintaining that Re-Volt feel. However, despite that, I still wish to keep hearing the original soundtrack whenever I race any of the stock tracks.
But why? I am really excited about the direction RVGL is heading, with the full usage of community-made assets, but I don't want to get rid of the nostalgic parts of the game either, which were the reason why I ended up in this lovely community in the first place. I want to hear community-made music in community-made tracks—but it's also important to me to still have that occasional glimpse of the old soundtrack. I suspect many people feel similarly and would actually make use of the new soundtrack much more if that was a possibility.
Here's the short version:

  • Use the community-made soundtrack as the default redbook
  • Bring the possibility to use the original redbook exclusively for the stock tracks
The one way I thought of handling this would be to keep the default soundtrack in redbook/ and the original soundtrack in something like redbook/original/. Adding a line such as REDBOOKVER original in the .inf files for stock tracks could be a way to let the game know which subfolder to use. If this also makes it possible to have multiple custom redbook subfolders, all the better, as it would be to the benefit of the I/O music pack, specific custom tracks, personalised Re-Volt installations and much more.
If this is difficult to implement (and would take a while before we could see it), or not something you would want to implement, please let me know. As a fallback, I will instead keep using the original soundtrack in the redbook folder and assign music from the new soundtrack to all custom I/O tracks.
As an alternative solution, make it possible to use REDBOOK values higher equal to or higher than 14.

I think honk sounds could be done. Skid and hit sounds should be (and already partially are) material-dependent.

I don't know how re-volt would handle that, i would say everything but engine sound. Unless there is some sort of "override"

So what if a track uses custom scrape/skid sounds? Then the car would completely disregard it or what?
I'm also supportive of this idea, and any idea about further customizing content that normally can't be customized.

Yeah, i can see what Kiwi is saying, but speaking truthfully, RVGL is pretty different from Acclaim's take on Re-Volt. I just feel that there would be more opportunity to customize and give more freedom to the serious and jokester drivers in re-volt. It gives a sense of personality.

I am supportive of this idea, especially for the possibility of custom honk sounds, but also agree with Kiwi's point about using them in the I/O pack. I assure you that I will avoid that, and will also alter Acclaim F1 to use the default sound again.
As a side note, I strongly disagree with it being one of the worst decisions, as we've had quite a lot of fun with it since it was implemented, especially in All's Fair 5. Although I always endorse stock-like content, not all custom content should have to follow that style. Additionally, it turned out to be extremely useful for the Clockworks pack and Mladen's real cars pack. It will also come in handy whenever I end up releasing a pack out of real R/C cars, as I plan on using more realistic R/C engine sounds for them.

I am not a big fan of this idea. The possibility to give cars a custom engine sound was one of the worst decisions in RVGL development, in my opinion. This takes away a lot of the overall flair that Re-Volt have since 1999.
However, I would be OK with the existence of custom engine sounds, as long cars in the I/O pack won't use them.

I thought I only can do it with the Shader = 0 or Shader = 1 line in the rvgl.ini. But this way it's much more comfortable, because I simply have to adjust my DEV shortcut.
This is very useful, Thanks Marv.

Definitely! I'll put all tracks into the music folder for use with custom tracks! This is what the OST project is meant for as well!

Suggestions • Car based custom sounds

Hello all. So I thought about it and seeing that we have custom engine sounds was really nice and has really upped the creativity aspect to car building. I was thinking about wanting to extend that for cars in general, so every car could have a custom scrape, skid_normal and skid_rough, Hit1 and hit2, and any other sounds that would fit more towards cars.

Work in Progress • Re: RV Soundtrack Project

I'd like to encourage the continuation of submitting new soundtracks, this time for the I/O custom music pack. Unused redbook music, such as Back in the Backyard, can instead be assigned to specific custom tracks that are part of the I/O collection. Sakura, for example, is in dire need of a soundtrack inspired by traditional Japanese music, in the same vein that Voltspirit for Ghost Town is inspired by spaghetti western music.
I could continue searching for royalty-free music such as Waterflame's, but I absolutely love what you guys have done so far and how well you nailed that original Re-Volt soundtrack feel. If you have any more interest in continuing, please, keep at it!

You can launch the game with -dev -noshader when you're using MAKEITGOOD until issues get resolved.

Yes, the glitches in Makeitgood are also the reason, that I'm not using the Shader Edition by default. That's especially an issue when racing on tracks like Ranch, so the whole situation is kind of annoying.

Bug Reports • Re: [RVGL] Problem using mirrors

I have tried it again after cutting my .w-file with WorldCut, but the problem is still there.
It seems I am not the only one with this issues, also Xarc and Instant had similar issues at their custom tracks. Both decided to get rid of their water boxes, so they were able to use mirroring surfaces.
However, I did it the other way round: I decided to release Spa-Volt 1 with water boxes, but without mirroring effects.
